Arley in SpringArley – a peaceful oasis in a busy world.
These delightful Grade II listed gardens have been lovingly created by generations of the same family and the tradition continues today with Viscount Ashbrook.  Over the past 30 years he has improved the Grove and Woodland Walk, a less formal area of the garden, planting over 200 rhododendrons, azaleas, exotic trees and shrubs.

The double herbaceous border, reputed to be the oldest and still the finest in the country, never ceases to amaze people.  From icy whites, silvers and pale blues in April and May to fiery reds, opulent oranges and deep golds in September, the borders are simply breathtaking.  (Visit the
Gardensearch Events section for details of the special garden events held during the year at Arley).

The Hall, rebuilt in 1840 in the Jacobean Victorian style, offers a contrast to the gardens.  Still very much a family home the Hall plays host to weddings, events, flower festivals, cocktail parties and themed events as well as being open to the public.

The Jacobean-style Capesthorne Hall, set in 100 acres of picturesque Cheshire parkland, has been touched by nearly 1,000 years of English history. The present Squire’s family has governed the estate since Domesday times when they were appointed custodians of the Royal Forest of Macclesfield.

In the grounds, beside the family Chapel, the intricate gilded ironwork of the 18th Century Italian Milanese Gates open onto the herbaceous borders and maples which line the tranquil gardens beside a chain of three man-made lakes that end in a 20-metre cascade of water. But amid the natural attraction and woodland walks - through a rich variety of trees including the old Giant Redwood, Spanish Chestnut, Corsican Pine, American White Oak and Japanese Red Cedar - Capesthorne still offers glimpses of its man-made past ... the remains of the Ice House, the Old Boat House and the curious Swallow Hole.

Capesthorne Hall and Gardens are open on Sundays, Mondays and Bank Holidays, from April to October. The Gardens are open from 12 noon to 5pm. The Hall is open at 1.30pm until 4pm with last admission at 3.30pm. Wheelchairs have access to the ground floor of the Hall only. Personal Guided Tours are available to pre-booked parties on non-open days only.  The Butler’s Pantry serves snacks and afternoon tea.

Admission Charges: click here for information & current prices.
Directions
: Capesthorne Hall is five miles west of Macclesfield off the A34 between Manchester and Stoke on Trent.
