Eighteenth century stately home surrounded by
extensive woodland dotted with lakes, temples and fountains.
There is a beautiful walled garden and fragrant, formal rose
gardens which are a joy from Spring right through until late
autumn and guided tours are available daily through the season. Open: Daily all year; 10am-6pm until November 2. Directions: From north - A1, A61 Thirsk, A170 Helmsley, right onto B1257 and follow signs to the Castle. From south, A1M, j45, A64 York (bypass) and follow brown tourist signs. |

One of Yorkshire's most relaxing yet inspiring
locations at the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales! The stunning 58 acre garden contains many highlights including contemporary mixed planting rose borders, spectacular herbaceous borders, streamside garden, scented and kitchen gardens; and the Gardens Through Time. Harlow Carr offers interest for all seasons, from woodland to wildflowers and alpines to autumn colour. Events all year include outdoor theatre, festivals, workshops and children's activities. With the extensive RHS Shop and Plant Centre and Betty's Café Tea Rooms offering delicious food and a variety of teas and coffees, it offers a great day out! Open: Daily all year (except Christmas Day) from 9.30am-6pm (or 4pm Nov-Feb inclusive). Last admission 1 hour before closing. The Himalayan Garden has been developed
over the last eight years on a sheltered woodland site
on the Hutts estate at a height of 850 feet above sea
level. Many plants have been grown from seed
collected by modern day plant hunters in China, Burma
and Tibet and the garden contains over 700 species and
hybrid rhododendrons and 150 azaleas. When the
garden is in full bloom in spring and early summer it
offers a chance to see a spectacular range of Himalayan
plants in a natural setting.
