Informal gardens beside a sixteenth century cottage in the New Forest.  Established in 1922, the gardens offer year-round interest.  The gardens are part of a charitable organisation providing residential care and horticultural training to young people with learning difficulties.

Owned by Chris and Myra Burville, this pretty quarter acre garden, full of sumptuous plants and water features, has been open for several years in support of the charity Diabetes UK.  The garden was voted Best Overall Garden during the Southampton in Bloom competition 2003.

Arches and trellis, festooned with roses and clematis, intermingle with evergreen and perennial planting, and many hardy geraniums, wildflowers and grasses.  The garden includes a stream, a wildlife pond, a fishpond with bridge and unusual water features such as the large cascading waterfall.  Gravelled areas are home to Hostas and ferns.  There is also plenty of seating and an indoor pool area.

Facilities: Tea & cakes.  WC.  Small nursery area with wide variety of plants for sale.

Directions:  Leave the M3 south at exit 14. At first roundabout take 2nd exit Bassett Avenue towards Southampton city centre, through pelican and set of traffic lights to 2nd roundabout, take 4th exit returning north back up Bassett Avenue (there is no right turn south into Holly Hill) and take the first road on the left at traffic lights into Holly Hill.  Take 1st turning left (there will be a sign at this junction) and after approx 400m the garden can be found on the left hand side before dropping down the hill.  The junction of Holly Hill at the traffic lights will be well signposted as will the front of the garden.  Ample parking is in the road but as it is a narrow road on a hill, please park considerately for neighbours and passing traffic.
