The hidden gardens and grottoes of Dewstow are a recently rediscovered network of tunnels and grottoes. Created around the turn of the last century, the Edwardian gardens and grottoes were largely buried just after world war 11 and have been lost until their discovery and subsequent renovation which began in 2001.

The gardens, which are proving very popular with visitors, are now open to pre-booked tours and through the Summer months for general viewing.  Ease of access from the main routes between the two Severn crossings make the gardens an excellent visitor choice whether you are local or just passing through.  It is recommended that you print and follow the local directions to Dewstow (which is poorly signposted) - it's well worth the trip!

Other facilities: Small Tea Room, WC facilities and optional guided tours.  Catering packages for larger groups are available at the adjoining golf club (which is part of the same business).  Excellent coach access close to the main routes into South Wales between both Severn crossings.
Further information: Please visit the Dewstow Gardens website for further details, including prices and opening times.

Directions:
From Cardiff: Leave the M4 at junction 24 (Coldra roundabout) and take the A48 Chepstow road. Continue for approx 8 miles until you pass the Wentwood Inn pub on your right. Continue for about 1 mile, then turn right into Caerwent. Drive into the village until you pass the Coach and Horses pub on your right. Turn right at the crossroads and drive out of the village. Where the road bears sharply left, turn right, go over the brow of the hill, past the golf club on your right and follow the road over the brow of the hill, under the wooden road bridge then bear round to the left and Dewstow House is on your left.
From the Old Severn Bridge:
Leave the M48 at junction 2 (the first one after the bridge).  Head for Chepstow. Take the first turning left off the Chepstow roundabout (A48-Newport).
Stay on the A48 all the way. Do not take the Caldicot exit off the small roundabout after the big hill. Keep heading for Newport all the way until you get to Caerwent. There is a big brown sign with "golf course and range" on it. Turn left into Caerwent, turn left at the crossroads. Continue out of the village and where the road bears sharply left, turn right. Over the brow of the hill, past the golf club on your right and follow the road over the brow of the hill, under the wooden road bridge then bear round to the left and Dewstow House is on your left.
From the Second Severn Crossing: Leave the M4 at Junction 23 (Magor), take the first turning off the roundabout and turn left again after approx 200yds. Turn right on the mini roundabout towards Magor and Caldicot. Keep on this road until you pass the "Cherry Tree Nursing Home" on your left (approx 6 miles).  Take the next immediate turning to your left. Follow the road up over the motorway bridge and Dewstow House is the next right.
